I think generalising him as a pure affliction warlock is kinda vague , in fact legion established that greenfire quest was still cannon by him having to be brought back from his banishment by the black harvest.
Put simply , warlocks in lore often dont have a commited spec in the same way they do in game now. I do agree however that greenfire only being destro now and having zero impact on the other two specs is a shame. That too yeah, though honestly I love what they did with shadowbolt effect, I am not sure if I would use green fire nowadays but they should make it either for all specs or make you choose which spec to use it for and make it part of settings, like DK voices provided you already did the quest.

The quest begins for those Warlocks determined or fortunate enough to have laid their hands on the fabled Codex of Xerrath. Warlocks can obtain a Sealed Tome of the Lost Legion that is sealed. After binding it to you and consulting with one of your demons, you can take it to a Warlock trainer to find out more about it. You then visit Wrathion, who asks you to read Legacy of the Masters Part 1.
Next, you infiltrate the opposite faction's base to obtain the second part of Legacy of the Masters. You retrieve Jubeka's Journal from them, which has clues as to the location of four Soulstone fragments that contain memories.
Once you have collected them all, you combine them and follow the source of the power to the Black Temple. You then follow Kanrethad and Jubeka's trail to the top of the Black Temple. While on your way there, Akama will make another appearance in the area where you fought Bloodboil.
He is under attack by forces you unleashed in the Reliquary of Souls, so you assist him and then make your way to the summit. Once there, something happens that creates The Eye of the Storm. You then return to Wrathion to try and find out what it is.
He doesn't know anything about it, but is willing to ask his agents. They are busy with the Horde and Alliance war, so you will have to wait until Patch 5. I hope we dont have to do the Wrathion questline because we'll have to kill Sha of Fear and all that stuff, making it extremely difficult for most warlocks to get this amazing item. Comment by Netherspark It hasn't been mentioned yet but the Codex also enlarges your Chaos Bolt , making it look like Kanrethad's super-powered version.
As of WoD, this is no longer true. It's just a regular old Chaos Bolt again. Comment by Pops Does anyone know if this made it past beta? Both my son and I have been trying for this with our warlocks ever since the patch but so far, no drops for either of us. Comment by Falconxii I find it interesting that nobody has mentioned the flavor text that was added to certain talents upon completing the quest to gain this effect.
